If I am here tonight, writing this blog while planning my training for the next 8 months, it’s only because of an app called “Couch to 5K”.

Ciao, I am Francesca, originally from Rome (Italy), I moved to the United Kingdom almost 10 years ago in search of independence and a job and I found both. I am a small animal Veterinary Surgeon and in the spare time I like to take on challenges!

So...the app!!! It all started last year (September 2023), when in a desperate effort to win over this terrible sport that was trying to kill me (aka running), I downloaded the NHS app “Couch to 5K” and said to myself “if I can walk it I can run it!”. Nine weeks (this is the duration of the running programme) and many many months and kilometers later, I have successfully conquered those 5K and got a little carried away with the mileage to the point that I am now training for my first ultra.

Someone once said, “Exercise is psychotherapy in motion”. It’s difficult to pinpoint THE way running is re-shaping my self-talk, taming the inner critic while allowing a brand new dialogue to take place. Something, at some point, just clicked! And no.... it was not one of my hips!

By the way, all this effort would be in vain if I didn’t use this platform to let you know I am fundraising for a good cause and it would mean a lot to me if you could take a look to my JustGiving page, and if my cause resonates with you, leave a little contribution! --> https://www.justgiving.com/page/francesca-castri-runsforawhile?utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=page%2Ffrancesca-castri-runsforawhile&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=pfp-share

lots of love, Cesca.

Fresca, what a story, fantastic...a real success story with the app. Well done. I can't wait to meet you. Being a vet, you'll love all the animals you'll see along the course in Mongolia. Good luck with the training. Mary
