First off, I woke up this morning feeling incredibly proud of myself - I have absolutely no regrets, which is a great feeling. But unfortunately, I stumbled upon a bit of bad luck during the race. The turning point of it all, was getting a stomach bug the night before the 90k run. I was up all night throwing up, and after completing four marathons in a row, it's imperative to keep all calories consumed. I managed to get the first 20k of the 90k done, but unfortunately still could not keep any water or food down. So I was pulled out of the race after 180k. Believe me when I say I literally, and metaphorically, left my guts out there. I had a great experience and am so grateful for all the support I received and the fact that together,we raised a lot of money for a charity doing incredible things in this world. That's something for all of us to be proud of. Thanks everyone for all of your love and support throughout this past year. Anda huge thank you to J.I, who has been there for me through all the painful training days, and all of my milestone glories getting up to this point. Your support and love mean so much to me, I love you so much. Thanks for being in my corner ring, and staying there, when i know you had one of the toughest jobs. I am going to the finish line tomorrow to cheer in Eric Wheeler who is seriously such a champion. I am so proud of him. Much loveto you all xoxo

Hi Chett, Having completed what you did was awesome! You have done brilliantly and will have learnt so much. Who's hand did you shake to get the bug? You won't do that again! We are so proud of you. It takes huge determination to undertake this type of race. The training and race will have made you a stronger person, and you will learn what to do next time. Enjoy your time out there, and here's to your feet as they will get better! Toe nails grow back! Georgie and James

Chett - you did amazing! Like my mom said, "a bit of bad luck" is an understatement. It is awesome to hear your positive attitude throughout the race, especially through the difficult times. You and Eric truly are an inspiration to many people, myself included. He will definitely enjoy you and Jordan being at the finish line to cheer him on! Congrats on completing 180k and we all are proud of you!

My dear Chett, I believe you have understated the situation with "A bit of bad luck". If anyone had bad luck on this journey it was you. But you stayed determined! Please know you have inspired me and many others with your perseverance. So many people here in SD have been cheering you on. We all think you are totally amazing. Enjoy your well deserved rest and thanks for meeting Eric at the finish line. Please remind him to keep in touch with me:) Love you

Okay, after you read this, you might think I am going crazy, but I promise I am not. Trust.

So today, OSAAT (team one step at a time) completely rocked it. And we were joined by a fourth member, “priscilla”.

Who is Priscilla you ask? Well, I have named my pain Prsicilla. She likes long conversations, and romantic  9 hour walks on the sand.

Ha but in all seriousness, it’s actually helping. It’s a nice little distraction for sure.

My heels are now completely raw, but that’s okay. One more big day – I got this.

Thanks for all the messages and comments. Know thst im laughing and smiling through this entire thing. One woman said to me today, “ I can’t belive you aer still moving, even more so, I can’t believe that I can hear your laughter every 20mminutes no matter where I am in the desert. It’s actually comforting.”

Sending you all laughter and smiles.

Im going to go and prepare myself to crush it tomorrow.

Cheers and love xoxo

Not really happy to hear about your fourth member (Priscilla) but do take good care of her especially those heals. We do get a chuckle from your comments but can only imagine it must hurt like hell. We know you will persevere and urge you on from afar. As always take good care. We love you lots.

Chett, Why am I not surprised you continue to find humor through your excruciating trek? You humble the rest of us. I hope Priscilla disappears quickly in the next few days. Enjoy the next week.....and PLEASE stay in touch. You are awesome!!!!

Chett, you are awesome and continue to inspire anyone who knows you! You will rock this race - I have no doubt!!

In Canada, we like to say “Run as though there is a pack of wild wolves chasing you” as a way to motivate us to move faster. In the desert, I’m running as though there is a camel chasing me.

Because there is. J

My feet are completely torn up, but my body feels amazing. Though I can’t move at a fast pace, I am definitely back in high spirits – my usual self.

I have found two companions to make this long trek with, our team is led by a fearless finnish woman (who is injury free and is there for moral support because she is amazing). Our team is called, “OSAAP” meaning “one step at a time.” J we are having a ton of fun, laughing, singing, and skipping through the desert.

We are one step closer to the finish line, and despite how my feet look, I have never felt more alive.

Cheers and love

Keep runnin' down the dream!

17 February 2014 03:27 am (GMT+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi

Pour me another cup of struggle, and I’ll drink every last drop.

Lucky for me, I started the race with a head cold. And now, after day 2, have been dubbed “the blister queen”. Yes that’s right, I have accumulated more blisters than anyone else. Why? Not quite sure, but I imagine it’s a combination of wet shoes, sandy terrain, and a 12kg pack (yes, it is too heavy, planning on ditching some extra food this evening).

Though I am trekking along far slower than I had originally planned, there has been some positives.

The scenery is absolutely epic. I have never seen anything like this before.

The people are amazing.

And… I am keeping warm. Which is a huge amazing bonus.

Sending you all well wishes. Taking another big gulp to the end.

Great to hear from you. Sorry to hear about all those blisters but we know you are going to hang in there. We did see you in the picture with another lady. Terrain looks a little rough. Do not get rid of too much food. Also following Eric's blog. Good luck to both of you and keep trucking. Thinking about you all the time. We love you lots and take care. Gramma and Grampa XOXO

Oh Chett, Sorry it is such a struggle. Fortunately, I know you are up for the challenge!! How in the world did you accumulate the most blisters?? Too funny. "Breaking news" reports sun today so maybe those shoes dried out. THANKS for the update and keep trekking!! Love ya!! Did you see the photo of and another woman walking?

I've done my final gear check, and donation tally check. WE HAVE RAISED CLOSE TO 8K! Eric and I are both so blown away with the generosity and compassion of the people we are connected to in our lives. Eric and I created, "The Sahara Shuffle: A Race for Clean Water" campaign. All money raised is going to Charity:Water. http://my.charitywater.org/sahara-shuffle- And NOW... It's time for us to go and get our shuffle on! 250km of shuffling to be exact. LET'S DO THIS!

Big gulp. Here we go! It's been over a year now since I decided to do this crazy race with one of my best friends, Eric Wheeler. And I know this may sound cliche, but wow has time ever gone by fast. It's been a year of struggle, perseverance, and constant change - so in other words, the.best.year.ever. I'm so incredibly excited to finally get to Jordan. Let's do this.

I'm not sure if you'll have a chance to see this before you start your race or once you arrive after your first day on the course. Either way, I want you to know that I am proud of you for taking on this big adventure. I believe in you. I hope that over the next few days you will take time to put aside the physical challenge of your journey and drink in the beauty of this planet in the amazing, foreign landscape you are traveling through. Not only do I know you can do this, I know you can do it with a smile on your face. Looking forward to your updates. I love you, Jasmine
